WILLKIE’S FUTURE
President’s Foreign Policy Backed (Received September 14, 10 p.m.) NEW YORK, September 14. The Washington correspondent of the Associated Press says Mr. Willkie has decided to take an active part in the elections in 1942, working and speaking for those Republicans who have backed President Roosevelt’s foreign policy. It is reported that he will work within the Republican Party to make it one standing for internationalism rather than isolationism. A Gallup suryey placed 20 names of prominent persons of all political views before voters throughout the nation, asking them to name their choice as prospective successor to President Roosevelt. The first five selected are all active supporters of Mr. Roosevelt's policy. They are: Mr. Willkie; the Secretary of State, Mr. Hull; the New York District Attorney, Mr. Dewey; the VicePresident, Mr. Wallace; and the mayor of New York, Mr. La Guardia. The State Department has licensed Pan-American Airways to establish a new commercial line from Miami to South-West Africa. The new service will facilitate the delivery of American planes to the Middle East.
