Realization that Russia is a redoubtable fortress is indicated in the following message to the German newspaper “Tageblatt” by its war correspondent on the Finnish front: . *‘^ c " cording to information received from officers of the Finnish General Staff, it would be wrong to assume that the Russian General Staff has lost its judgment on the actual positions or rhe front. On the contrary, it seems to be a fact (hat it is well-informed where the position is good and where it is critical. “Chief regimental commanoers in the Finnish Army Corps state that the Red troops light very stubbornly and not caring whether their position is hopeless or whether the attack comes from the rear or in front. The fact that the Red soldiers light fanatically, preferring death to surrender, is the cause of severe losses on both sides.
