Vice-Regal. Government House, Wellington, September 14. His Excellency the Governor-General formally opened the East Harbour Horticultural Society’s spring show at Eastbourne yesterday afternoon. Later his Excellency was present at a conference of the Metropolitan Boy Scout Patrol Leaders. Captain C. J. Holland-Martin was in attendance. . This evening their Excellencies the Governor-General and Lady Newall, attended by Captain Holland-Martin, were present at Divine service in the Chapel of the Flying Angel Missions to Seamen. Mr. C. McL. Richwhite has been appointed vice-consul for Sweden in Auckland, states a Gazette notice. Mr. George Cowie. Christchurch manager, has been appointed to the board of directors of Bing, Harris and Co., Ltd., New Zealand. Mr. T. W, West was re-elected chair - man and Mr. B. Seth Smith vice-chair-man at the annual meeting of the Christchurch Technical College Board of Governors. Mr. Hector Christie, Dominion chief commissioner for the Boy Scouts, who is accompanied by his daughters, Mrs. J. Warren, of Carnarvon, and Mrs. R. Sherriff, of Wanganui, is at present in Auckland on Scout business. Mr. W. A. Jenkins, who for the past 11 years has been president of the Otago Swimming Centre, has been nominated by the centre as president of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association. Mr S. M. Burnside, merchandize manager of the D.1.C., Wellington, has resigned and will relinquish his position next month. Mr. Burnside has served with the company in Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin during the past 12 years. Lieutenant-Colonel Allan Monkhouse, who is reported to have been appointed assistant to Lord Beaverbrook, head of the British mission to Moscow, formerly lived at Stratford and attended the Stratford Technical High School. Major S. T. Scddon, M. 0.. New Zealand Temporary Staff, formerly camp commandant at Ngaruawabia. and Major R. Tilsley, M.C., D.C.M., E.D.. New Zealand Temporary Stall, formerly commanding officer of the Ist Infantry Training Battalion at Papakura, have returned to the Dominion after duty overseas.
