13-MILE ROUTE MARCH

Hastings Military Reserve Company Dominion Special Service. HASTINGS, September 1-1. Men of the Hastings company of the National Military Reserve, under Captain A. D. M. G. Laing, this afternoon marched from Napier Io Hastings by w7iy of the main road, a distance of approximately 13 miles. The march was made under standard army conditions, with regular halts and a half-way break for refreshments. Despite the heat of the afternoon, and miles of marching on concrete road, the men arrived at Hastings in good shape, showing no sign of fatigue. The company carried full packs and rifles and were accompanied by Hie Hastings Scots Society pipe bund. The bearing of the men. most of whom are middle-aged, evoked favourable comment and officers expressed themselves aS well satisfied with the men's performance.
