RUSSIAN EFFICIENCY
French Major Impressed
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 11
A very heartening account of the Russian efficiency and morale as he saw it during his six weeks’ stay m Moscow was given my Major Billotte —son of General Billotte, wlio was killed in Flanders last year while carrying dispatches from General IVeygand to Lord. Gort —who vas among French officers who reached London after escaping from, a German prison, via Russia, to join the Free French forces. Major Billotte stressed the unlimited resources of man and woman power at Russia’s disposal, and the fact that tlie resources of man and woman power are almost entirely militarized and that their discipline is exceptionally good. . He expressed the strong opinion that even if Russia lost Leningrad, Smolensk, Kiev and Moscow, she would still never give in.
Of great interest was a statement, which Major Billotte cited of the editor of the French Communist newspaper “Ce Soir” io the effect that as recently- as last May 98 per cent, of the French civilians were definitely opposed to collaboration with Germany. ’
