EINSTEIN’S VOICE TO BE HEARD
London Science Congress (British Official Wireless.) (Received September 12, 8.30 p.m.) RUGBY, September ItScientists from all parts of the world —22 nationalities in all—will meet from September 26 to 28 at the Royal Institution, London, to contribute to a conference which aims at linking up science with government for the betterment of human life. Since Herr Hitler came to power and until 11)37 the number of entries into German Universities dropped by half. Thus, despite all the real uses to which Herr Hitler and his advisers have put science, the Nazis are living on their scientific capital. On the other hand, as explained by Professor Sir Richard Gregory, president of the British Association, the Allies have the co-operation of scientists from all free countries in what is a great democratic commonwealth of science. Sir Richard urged the necessity for those in control of public affairs to understand the power which science places in the hands of mankind for construction and human betterment. When such knowledge was in the bauds of gangsters they could hold up peaceful communities by their thousands and millions. The conference, which is being held under the auspices of the British Association, aims at better relations between science and government—administration and other agencies concerned in constructive planning for the present and the future. Its spirit is the same as that of the momentous AngwAmerican statement of peace aims drawn up by President Roosevelt and Mr. Churchill-
Those scientists who, because of difficulties of transport in wartime, will not be able to make contributions personally, are recording their papprs and their voices will be heard in London. Professor Einstein, in exile from Germany, is making a record in America on the common language of science and prominent Indian scientists will probably record speeches.
