Sir Harry Batterbee, High Commissioner for the United Kingdom, left Wellington yesterday for Auckland. He will return to Wellington on Monday.
Mr. J. McMillan has been reappointed Government nominee on the Dannevirke Fire Board.
Captain F. W. Mothes was a passenger from Wellington for the south by the steamer express last night. The Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, M.P., Cheviot, left Wellington last night on his return to the South Island.
Mr. K. J. Holyoake, the National Party candidate for the Pahiatua electorate, has taken up his residence on his farm at Waitahora, Dannevirke. Mr. S. G. Holland, Leader of the Opposition, left Wellington for Christchurch last night by the steamer express.
Professor C. P- McMeekan, Victoria University College, was a passenger for the south by last night’s steamer express.
Mr. H. A. Beauchamp, managing director of Kodak (N.Z.) Ltd., returned to Wellington yesterday from the South Island.
The Hons. G. R. Hunter, M.L.C., and J. K. Archer, M.L.C., travelled south from Wellington by the steamer express last night. Mr. J. Breward, Redcliffs, Christchurch, secretary of the New Zealand Council of the Royal Life Saving Society, has been awarded the recognition medal of the central executive, London, for his services to the society. Mr. W. J. Garnett, M.8.E., official secretary in the office of the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom, is shortly to leave New Zealand to join the office of the High Commissioner for the United Kingdom in Australia. He will be succeeded by Mr. R. R. Sedgwick, of the office of the High Commissioner in Australia, who will arrive in New Zealand toward the end of October.
