NO PERMIT FOR PAINT FACTORY
County Council Decision
SITE AT TAW A FLAT
The decision to prohibit the proposed erection of n paint manufacturing concern near the station at Tawa' Flat, as it was considered undesirable for the district, was made at a meeting yesterday of the Makara County Council. It was reported that plans had been submitted, but that no application had yet been made for a building permit. ‘Tt is widely recognized that the Tawa Flat district is essentially a residential area, and no industry which is {incompatible with this should be allowed to become established,” stated the Progressive and Ratepayers Association, in a letter of protest. “We understand that the proposed factory is classed as an offensive industry in the city of Wellington, and the association has no hesitation in urging that its . establishment be prohibited by the council. “We should not even wait for the submission of plans, but should notify the company that we refuse to give permission,” said Cr. E. Windley. “You know what these plans are. The building ishalf up often before -we hear anything about it and them. We assured the people of Tawa Flat previously that we would take action if any application was made for the establishment of a noxious trade there.” The council decided to take immediate action along these lines. ,
