CHRISTCHURCH, September 12. Spring racing in the South Island will be opened by the Ashburton County Racing Club tomorrow. Fields are well filled and main interest will be centred in the Ashburton Handicap, John Gngg Stakes, and Spring Handicap. The Stakes was formerly the first two-year-old race of the season in, thfc South Island, but is now for three-year-olds, and several well-performed horses will take part. The course is likely to be firm. Betting will be win and place. The following horses should be well supported : — County Hurdles— Ferriby, Night Dress, Scottish Dale, Highland Dance, Donnybrook Fair.
