GOVERNMENT STOCKS

South Otago Freezing Co. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, September 12. The proposals of the directors of the South Otago Freezing Company Jo restrict dealings in the shares ot the com pany, were defeated at a special meet “'° of shareholders at Balclutha to day, , wl ‘en strong opposition to the new articles o association, to consider which the mee;m» was called, was expressed. The meetm ß was largely attended. The directors’ proposal was that when a holder of shares desired to dispose ot his holdings, he should be required to place them in the hands of the directors for a period of two months for sale at the holder’s price, and failing a sale in that time, the holder would be free to market the shares as he saw fit. It was sta.cd that if this article were adopted, tne shares would be removed from the Stock Exchange quotation list, and would sutler in value. At the same time quotations would disappear, and the question of obtaining an’ accurate valuation for such purposes as winding up deceased estates would be made difficult. The motion that the articles relating to this subject should be rejected was carried by a large majority. Several other articles were amended, and the directors were asked to incorporate a new. article empowering shareholders to require t e directors to call special general meetings.
