, Vice-Regal. Government House. Wellington, September 11. His Excellency the Governor-General presided at a meeting of the standing committee of the National Patriotic Fund Board this morning. This afternoon the Governor-General fprmally opened the Wellington City Missions Fair in the Town Hall. This evening His Excellency was present at rhe annual dinner of the New Zealand Company of Master Mariners. . Captain C. J. Holland-Martin was in attendance. Mr, L, 0. H. Trjpp, who has been visiting the South Island, returned to Wellington yesterday. Mr.. I. B. Cromb left Wellington last night on his return to Christchurch. . The Hon. J. A. McCullough, M.L.C., left Wellington last night for the south. Colonel W. A. Ebbs, chief secretary of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, returned to Wellington from the south yesterday. Lieutenant-Colonel E. R. McKiUoPi deputy City Engineer, who has been on service overseas, is visiting Wellington. Mr. R. McPherson, Wheat and Flour Controller, is visiting Wellington and Palmerston North, and will return to Christchurch at the weekend. Mr. W. Goodfellow, managing director of Amalgamated Dairies Ltd., Auckland, arrived at Wellington from the South Island yesterday and later travelled to Auckland by air. Mr. K. D. Cosgrove, of the Auckland Area Manpower Committee staff, has been appointed secretary to the No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal Board, Hamilton, in succession to Mr. G J. A. Grace, who is entering the Army, The Hon. Mr. Justice O’Regan has returned to Wellington from Christchurch, having completed the South Island sittings of the Compensation Court. He will leave for Palmerston North on Sunday, and North Island sittings of the Court will occupy him for the next six weeks or so.

Mr. Gilbert C. Beckett, commodore of the Royal Bort Nicholson Yacht Club, Wellington, who has been visiting Christchurch for a day or two, will be the guest of the flag officers and committee of the Banks Peninsula Cruising Club before his departure. Mr. N. R. Farrant has been appointed manager of the Ashburton branch of Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Limited. Mr. Farrant joined the firm 24 years ago, and for the last nine years has been manager of the land department in Christchurch. For six years before that he was manager of the Kaikoura branch.

Flight Lieutenant M. W. Mills, officer in charge of administration at the R.N.Z.A.F. station, Wigram, will leave shortly on transfer to Air Headquarters, Wellington, where he will become staff officer to .the Air Member for Supply. He will be replaced at Wigram by Flight Lieutenant T. Shanley, Air Headquarters. Lieutenant-Colonel C. E. Kerens, D. 5.0., 0.8. E., has been appointed to command of the Otago University Medical Company, N.Z.M.C. Major (temporary Lieutenant-Colonel) G. A, D. Iverach, M.C., relinquishes command of the company and is transferred to the Reserve of Officers, Southern Military District,
