PEAS FOR VITAMINS
Sow At Frequent Intervals
Peas are rich in the B vitamin group and therefore come under the classification of protective foods. For that reason alone they should be regarded as one of the principal summer vegetables. Continuous supplies over a period of several months can be assured by sowing a few rows now, and making small sowings at intervals of about a fortnight till the end of the year. Peas require a deep, fairly rich soil that does not dry but Before sowing, work the soil to a fine tilth and incorporate in it composted material or leafmould. Peas require lime which should be applied at the rate of 4oz. per square yard, and lightly pricked into the soil a few days before sowing. Sow 2in. apart in tows 4ft. apart and cover with one inch of soil. A suitable mixture of. artificial fertilizers is two parts of superphosphate to one part of sulphate of ammonia lightly worked into the soil a fortnight before sowing.
