Wellington Beturns Show Decrease FIGURES FOR AUGUST Net Customs revenue collected at the port of Wellington last month shows a substantial decrease compared with August, 1940. Stiles tax, beer excise, end war tax receipts show increases. Net Customs revenue last month amounted to £214,175, compared witn £267,976 in August, 1940, a decrease of £53,801. The total for the eight months of this year is £1,952,412, • compared with £2,282,843 for the corresponding period of 1940, a decrease of £330,431. War tax under its four . separate heads totalled £124,894, against £llB,517 in August.) 1940, an increase of £6377. For the eight months the totals are £995,597 and £349,737 respectively, an increase of £645,560. Collections of sales tax in August amounted to £98,101, as against £95,099 in August, 1940, an increase of £3002. For the eight months the totals are £749,419 Bind £819,478 respectively, a decrease of £70,059. Beer excise collections last month totalled £8692, compared with £7658 in August, 1940, an increase of £1034. For the eight months the totals are £68,604 and £68,218 respectively, an increase of £386.

The revenue for August was £213,144. compared" with £231,762 in August, 1940. Dunedin. — Customs revenue collected at the port of Otago during August shows an increase .of £4,188 on the figures for the same month last year. ’ Following are detailed figures, those for August, 1941, being followed by those for August, 1940 : —Customs revenue, £39,010, ,£41,436; beer duty, £31,654, £36,787; sales tax, £32,301, £27,728; war expenses account, £39,966, £32,792.
