JAPANESE DEMAND
French Relations With
China

SHANGHAI, August 30.
Japan lias demanded that France shall break off relations with Chungking and oust Chinese consular officials from French Indo-China immediately. The French Ambassador, M. Arsene Henry, has interrupted his vacation and hurried to Tokio because of Japanese insistence that Vichy shall recognize Nanking. It is officially announced in Chungking that a strong protest against a violation of the Chinese frontier on August 4 by 1- Tench troops from IndoChina has been sent to Vichy by the Chinese Government. The French troops are declared to have destroyed Chinese houses and inflicted casualties.
