Units taking part comprised the No. 1 Section sth Field N.Z.E. ('by permission of the O.O.), Women’s War Service Auxiliary (signallers, canteen, garden and typistes’ sections), escorted by W.0.2 F. Ryan, Home Guard, Emergency Fire Service ■with trailer pump outfit, Red Cross and A.D.’s, St. John Ambulance Brigade (all divisions), and a full coipplement of E.P.S. officers and meffibers. Three bands co-operated, to supply the music—Hutt Valley Pipe Band (Pipe-Major Shannon), Salvation! Army and the Petone_.Oitizens’ Bands, The parade, numbering about 500, which was under the control of Mr, C. Halford (deputy for Lieut R. W« Toomath, local H.G. commander), moved at 11 a.m. from the junction of Gear and Jackson Streets, proceeding through the well-lined main thoroughfare to halt opposite the Municipal Buildings, where the deputymayor, Mr. A. M. Macfarlane, who is also chairman of the Emergency Reserve Corps committee, addressed the large assemblage. Mr. Macfarlane thanked the various units for their ready response to the rally and congratulated officers and members on their smart bearing and marching. He urged them to carry on with their good work, and Petone would not be found wanting when emergencies had to be faced. The fact that all those in the parade were members of these voluntary organizations was a source of pride and credit to the town —but there was room in the ranks for more —not only in the W.W.S.A., but also both the Home Guard and E.P.S. i‘V” for victory was a fine symbol, but “V” for volunteers for national service was just as essential to ensure the best development of the Emergency Reserve Corps in the borough and elsewhere, said Mr. Macfarlane. Traffic control arrangements were admirably handled by the local Law and Order Controller, Senior-Sergeant 11. C. D. Wade, and his staff and Traffic Inspector Archer and a patrol car.
