' Degree Of Combination COMMENT ON DELAY IN COMPLETING INQUIRY (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 2S. Delay in completing a departmental inquiry as to practicability of combining certain aspects of the two radio broadcasting services with the object of releasing employees for military service was commented upon at a No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board sitting. An appeal by the Director of National .Service on behalf of Richard Leonard Miller, technician and announcer, was under consideration. The station manager of ISA, Mr. A. F. O'Donoghue, said appellant had been five years with the department. He was one of the few technicians and announcers who conducted operating and announcing single-handed at the station between 5.30 a.m. and 9 a.m. daily. The Crown representative. Mr. Cox. said that when similar appeals were previously before the board it was suggested that by combining the two services some men might be released, lie understood a committee of inquiry had been set up and bad visited the various -centres. Mr. O’Donoghue said the committee had visited Auckland about two months ago, but nothing had been settled so far. The idea was to amalgamate certain aspects of the two services. “Surely some decision should be to baud by this time,” commented the chairman. Mr. Orr Walker, S.M. “We will have to try to hurry it along. This and other boards might hasten things by dismissing all appeals.” In adjourning the appeal till November, the chairman said the board would expect something definite from the inquiry by then and added) “I daresay there are wheels within wheels.”
