SCHOOL PRAYERS
Suggestion By Mr. Doidge
A suggestion that children in primary schools should be permitted to offer a prayer for victory each morning was made by Mr. Doidge (Opposition, Tauranga). He said I hey were permitted to salute the flag, and he advocated wore attention to the moral side of education. Mr. Doidge said it would surely be possible for the leaders of the churches to devise between them a suitable prayer. A Government member: There are prayers at secondary schools each mornMr. Doidge said that prayers were offered in the House itself and at some local body meetings. A Government member: And we are no better tor it.
Mr. Doidge was making an effort to refer to juvenile crime and the need for moral education when he was ruled out by the Chairman of Committees, Mr. McKeon,
