Vice-Regal. Government House, Wellington, August 29. This morning his Excellency the Go-vernor-General, attended by Captain C. J. Holland-Martin, inspected a factory engaged in the production of war material. Mr. J. W. Beanland, Christchurch, is visiting Wellington. Mr. J. D. Sievwright returned to Wellington from the south yesterday. Mr. Malcolm Fraser, Wellington, is visiting Auckland. Mr. S. G. Holland, M.P., Leader of the Opposition, left Wellington last night for Christchurch. The Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, M.P., Cheviot, was a passenger for the south from Wellington last night. Dr. C. T. Hand Newton left Wellington by last night’s steamer express on liis return to Christchurch.

Mr. P. R. Angus returned to Wellington yesterday from the South Island.

Mr. H. B. Duckworth, Christchurch, was a passenger for the south from Wellington by the steamer express last night.

Mr. G. T. Smith, accountant of the Bank of Australasia in Palmerston North, has been appointed accountant in Wellington. Mr. S. E. Addis, security clerk, Bank of Australasia, Wellington, has been appointed accountant in Palmerston North.

Mr. H. F. Butland, secretary of the Canterbury Employers’ Association, returned to Christchurch last night from Wellington.

Mr. W. M. Shand, Christchurch manager of Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., left Wellington on his return to the South Island yesterday. Mr. T. H. Langford, No. 3 licensing authority, Christchurch, travelled south from Wellington by last night’s steamer express.

Mr. W. Wrightson, accountant of the Bank of Australasia for the past nine years, has been appointed manager of the bank’s Gisborne branch.'

The Rt. Rev. W. A. R. Fitchett, Bishop of Dunedin, left Wellington by last night’s steamer express on his return to Dunedin.

Captain W. V. Quane, sick and wounded officer at Auckland, and Cai> tain W. Gee, Auckland area officer, were passengers for Wellington yesterday from Auckland. Mr. C. M. Turrell, a director and general manager of the New Zealand Shipping Company, Limited, returned to Wellington by air from Auckland yesterday. The King has approved of the retention of the title of Honourable by Mr. W. Lee Martin, who was more than three years a member of the Executive Council, according to a Gazette notice. Messrs. E. M. Hunt and C. C. Nash have been reappointed as manufacturers’ representatives on the Tobacco Board, and Messrs. J. F. Balck and F. A. Hamilton as growers’ representatives.

The Rev. Kenneth Bell, of the Congregational Church, Lower Hutt, has been appointed to succeed the Rev. G. C. H. Bycroft, at the United Congregational Church, Dunedin. He is to take up his new duties on October 1. Mr. Bell, who began his ministerial career in Gore, Southland, has been three years iu Lower Hutt. The Rev. G. C. Hedley Byeroft, late cf the United Congregational Church, Dunedin, with Mrs. Bycroft and family, arrived at Wellington from the south yesterday morning. He will be inducted into his new charge of the Cambridge Terrace Congregational Church on Thursday evening. The Rev. C Cannoli Hoskin, chairman of the Congregational Union of New Zealand, will preside, and the inductior.al address will be delivered by the Rev. 11. W. Newell. Mr. Bycroft will take up his duties on September 7.

Army appointments gazetted this week include: Major (temporary lieu-tenant-colonel) H. G. Carruth relinquishes the command of the 2nd New Zealand Divisional Cavalry Regiment and is posted to the Composite Training Depot; Major A. J. Nicoll, 2nd New Zealand Divisional Cavalry Regiment. Is appointed to command the regiment and granted the temporary rank of lieutenant-colonel; Captain J. B. White is granted the temporary rank of major while holding the appointment of deputy assistant adjutant-gen-eral, 2nd New Zealand Division-
