SCOTTISH WOOL PRICES
Through the courtesy of Mr. A .Clarke, Featherston, 1 have received a paragraph about wool prices published in the "Ohan 'rimes,” West of Scotland, on May 31. This is headed. 'Twopence more for hlacklaoi'ii wool." and reads*: - "I nder the Ministry of Supply's order for the requisitioning of lioiiie-proilmTtl wool supplies from this season's elip, a schedule of prices has been fixed whi' li shows that for blackface and Cheviot wools, the two leading Scottish types, the control term.-, are 2d. and -Id. per 11>. higher than those fixed for last year's dips. The 'top' prices fixed for Scotland for wools of the specified types are: —Cheviot ewe and hogget, washed 2H<l., greasy ISd.; halfbred hogget and wether, lt)d., 17-J<l.; LcieespH's, IGjjd.; crosses, 15d.; blacklace, l*Hd. As prices in Australia and New Zealand have remained static for the past two seasons, and there has* been as yet no suggestion that they might be raised this year, it was with some surprise that I read of an increase being granted in Scotland. Tbfjse interested in Cheviots will note also that the wool of this breed is highly respected, judging from the price paid. If to the 18d. per lb. quoted there be added 25 per eent. exchange, one finds a pt'ice equalling 22|d. in New Zealand currency.
