Auckland Grammar Team Wins Final Auckland Grammar School won the North Island secondary schools hockey tournament yesterday by beating Palmerston North Boys' High School, 3-2. in .the final, which was played al. the Kilbirnie llicreatlon Ground, Wellington, in fine weather. Both teams had come through their sections unbeaten. The final was a contrast iu styles. Auckland was the more profi-. cient team and.adopted the- short-passing game, showing admirable appreciation ot positional play and combining in many attractive movements. Palmerston North played a hard-hitting game and also presented a rugged defence. The standard of hockey throughout the match was excellent, with a well-merited victory going to the better side. Outstanding players were Davies, the Auckland captain and inside right, Kelsey, left full-back, and Barkwith, the Palmerston North left full-back, whose defence was first-class. For Auckland, Davies (2) and Jones scored. Persson scored for Palmerston North, who were also awarded a penalty goal. The teams were:— Auckland Grammar: Jaine; Kelsey, Buchan; Allison, Luyk, Evafis: Glffney, Wvatt, Jones, Davies (captain), Short. Palmerston North 8.H.5.; Morton ; Barkwith, Thomson: Garvle, Penketb, G. Davies; Mummery, Persson, Kyle, J. Nichols, Waters (captain). Referees: Messrs. 8. B. Browne and C. P. McKenzie. /
