Vice-Regal. Government House, Wellington, August 6. His Excellency the Governor-Gener-al presided at a meeting of the Executive Council this morning. Later, their Excellencies the Gover-nor-General and Lady Newall were present at the annual general meeting of the council of the New Zealand Red Cross Society, tlie proceedings of which were formally opened by his Excellency. This afternoon their Excellencies were present at (lie Arbor Day function at the Bolton Street cemetery. Captain 11. G. Helmore was in attendance. Mr. 11. D. Acland, Christchurch, is visiting Wellington. Major 11. E. Suckling returned to Wellington yesterday from the south. Mr. B. E. IT. Whiteombe arrived at Wellington from the south by the steamer express yesterday. Colonel R. A. Row, D.S.O;, N.Z.S.C., returned to Wellington from Auckland yesterday. Squadron Leader G. Carter was a passenger to Wellington by the steamer express yesterday. Mr. C. L. Hunter, Conciliation Commissioner, arrived at Wellington from Auckland yesterday. Mr. John Dowgray arrived at Wellington from tlie south by the .steamer ex press yes (e rd ay. Brigadier 0. If. Mead. Southern District, and Brigadier I’. IT. Bell, Northern Military District, arrived at Wellington yesterday.
