MARSEILLES TRADE
British Toll Of BlockadeRunners i British Official Wireless.)
RUGBY, July 31
Asked for a statement regarding the prevention of enemy trading to Marseilles, the Minister of Economic Warfare, Dr. Dalton, said that the greatest importance is attached to cheeking traffic to and from Marseilles, since bulk cargoes landed there are seized by the Germans and Italians, and out-ward-bound ships carry enemy exports. While the position is still not satisfactory, a steady toll is being taken of ships attempting to evade British control. During Slay and June six ships trading between metropolitan France and French colonies were Intercepted and so far there have been four interceptions this month.
Two of these ships were intercepted by units of the Netherlands navy. Dr. Dalton said he would like to acknowledge the valuable assistance which the Netherlands navy is giving in the enforcement of the blockade.
