Miss Nora Walton, Government House, left Wellington for the south last night.
Mrs. J. T. Tosswill, Remucra. arrived at Wellington yesterday from Auckland. Mrs. Cuthbert Freyberg, Palmerston North, has returned from a visit to Kerikeri.
Mr. and Mrs. W. Machin returned to Christchurch from Wellington last night. Miss Helen Montague, Wellington, is visiting Auckland. Dr and Mrs. H. S. Reay, Greymouth, arrived at Wellington yesterday from the south. Miss Norma Stewart, Havelock North, arrived at Wellington yesterday to join the staff of a business firm. Mrs. Mark Rodgers and Miss Babette Rodgers, Palmerston North, are spending the weekend in Wellington.
Mrs. N. Mackie, Palmerston North, has as her guest her sister, Mrs Borlase, Christchurch.
Wellington visitors to Feilding for the wedding of Miss Joan Cousins, are Colonel and Mrs. R. St. John Beere, Miss Oswald Beere, Miss Valerie Beere, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. McKenzie, Mr. and Mrs. C. Hayes. Mrs. R. Welch, Eastbourne, has returned to her home after spending a holiday with her mother, Mrs. A. Marshall, Stanway, Feilding. Miss Ngita Woodhouse, Palmerston North, is visiting Auckland. Mrs. R. St. John Beere, Wellington, who has been visiting Napier, is now in Feilding for the wedding of Miss Joan Cousins and the Rev. Lionel Beere.
Victoria League Buffet Tea. A buffet tea for the younger contingent of the Victoria League in Wellington was held in the league room recently, when more than 50 members were present, in addition to the president, Mrs. J. A. Doctor, and Mrs. A. A Cramond. After discussion it was decided that though the girls are too busy with individual war work to meet regularly for sewing and knitting purposes everyone will make a garment to bring to the September buffet tea when it will be arranged what object will be definitely supported. As the numbers are growing so large, it was also decided that a secretary-treasurer should be appointed to assist the convener. Mrs. B. McKinlay, and Miss Nell Kendall was elected.
Parcels for refugees and soldiers overseas were packed and forwarded at the July meeting of the Paekakariki Women’s Institute. A bring and buy table realized a satisfactory su:n The drama circle has decided to present two plays at the drama festival this month.
