Increase In In-Patients At Wellington EFFECT OF SOCIAL SECURITY ACT
Figures presented at this week’s meeting of the Wellington Hospital Board showed that on June 30 the number of in-patients in the main hospital, children’s hospital, fever hospital, Ewart, Victoria and Central Park hospitals, was 1157, compared with 926 in June last year. Attendances at various departments during June were: Physio-therapy department, 4400;; actino-tberapy department, 742; X-ray department, 1728; radium department, 759; orthopaedic department, 753; eye, ear, nose and throat department, 563; chest clinic, 717; general outpatients and other clinics, 10,354. The attendances at the dental department were 3991, compared with 4201 in June last year. Fees received were £5BO/2/- compared with £578 19/6. The effect of the operation of the social security benefits on the hospital was shown by the return of fees collected from the Social Security Department for June, which totalled £10,580, compared with £322 in June, 1940, and £579 in June, 1939.
