PROVINCIAL RUGBY
Wellington And Canterbury Today The Wellington Rugby representatives will have their first home game of the season today, when they will meet Canterbury at Athletic Park. On paper the Wellington team looks oue of the most powerful the province has fielded for many seasons, and it should have an easy win. Included in the pack are three Hawke’s Bay All Blacks, now members of the Trenthnni Army side —Jackson, Dalton, and Bowman; Finlay, ‘he star forward of last season, and Cassidy and Todd, who performed well in the 1939 All Black trials. A. Kenny and Stanaway, who complete the pack, are „lso splendid forwards. The scrum should average over 14 stone. The feature of the back line is its pace, Pocknail, Hunter and Jamieson, in particular, being real speed merchants. The Canterbury team contains no All Blacks, the best' known players being Cartwright (captain), and Herman (forward). Nevertheless, teams without reputations have often caused major upsets. and Canterbury, following a defeat by West Const recently, has been in solid training. The curtain-raiser will be provided by a senior A and senior B representative teams.
