KINKLE WINS MAIN STEEPLECHASE

Results Of Waipa Meeting WOODSTOCK STAKES TO YOUNG PADDON Dominion Special Service. TE AWAMUTU, June 21. For the Waipa winter meeting there was beautiful weather with a record attendance. The totalizator handled £37,117, compared with £25,902 last year. Win For Novice. Having his first race over country and ridden by W. Pascoe, who has only recently resumed riding, Rival scored a decisive victory in the Andrew Kay memorial Hack and Hunters’ Steeplechase, for which Comrie and Paint were the favourites. Most of the field lacked experience and the jumping was poor. Rival assumed command and won easily from Brandon Hall with Comrie a moderate third. British Sovereign was fourth and Conflagration fifth. Mio Generale, Sweet Nothing and Day Bonnet fell, Paint and Bellaghy lost their riders and Gold Brocade was pulled up. Easy Victory. Finishing attractively, the fourth fancy Glenbevan registered an easy victory in ■the first division of the Arapuni Hack Handicap, in which the each way favourite Lady Bambury was well beaten. Miss Eureka led early to be joined in the middle stages by Royal Sister and they led into the straight from African and Elise. Momentarily it appeared as if Royal Sister would win, but Glenbevan smothered the field in the last furlong and "won going away from Elise, who finished solidly to beat Royal Sister for second. Air Port, running on, was fourth, closely attended by African and Miss' Eureka. Kinkle at Good Odds. Only four finished in the W. G. Park Steeplechase, in which Kinkle won at good odds. Black Musk led the field for a round' and he was clear when he crashed at the second fence of the double. After that the race resolved into a duel between Floodlight and Kinkle. Rounding the home Kinkle drew out slightly, and he won bv four lengths from Floodlight. Lucidus was 20 lengths away third and Erination was a poor fourth, which position Jewelled Girdle would probably have filled only for balking at the last fence. Allegretto fell at the second fence, after which Tudor was pulled up, having gone amiss. Clansman was pulled up in the first round and Gar Vaals in the .second, Gar Vaals being beaten at the time. Joy'Vaals Surprises. Jumping out smartly from No. 2, Joy Vaals won the second division of the Arapuni Hack Handicap at double figures. Joy Vaals and Royal Melody led into the straight from Stylish Man, Bronze Meter and Kara Avis wide out. Joy Vaals ran on strongly to win by half a length from Nan Vaals, who challenged gamely after getting a nice run through. Stylish Man battled on to be a length and a half away third and Bronze Meter was fourth, ahead of Natal, Rara Avis and Bronze Emerald. The win favourite Rara Avis received a couple of checks early. The consistent Young Paddon scored a well deserved victory in the 'Woodstock Stakes for which he was second in demand to Our Joan. British Talent and Kaspian made all the running and they led into the straight from Young Paddon, heemed in on the rails, King Rey. Our Jean and Wildore. Once in line for the post King Rey, Our Jean and Wildore challenged. Fifty yards from the post Wildore was in front but Young Paddon secured an opening and dashed through to beat him by a neck. Kaspian was another neck away third and Viteinent was fourth, followed by Kilcash. 'Philemup. Gold Vaals and Our Jean who weakened in the last 100 yards. . The third fancy, Gold Spot, registered an pasv win in the Orakau Hurdles, for which Bisquit and Surpai were the favourites. Bisquit led early from.. Orient Dawn, Surpai and Gold Spot. With five furlongs to go Gold Spot ran to the front and was never afterward troubled, winning bv six lengths from Surpai. who followed 'him throughout the last half mile. Hessketoon plodded on to be another six lengths away third and 5 cry Glad was four til. Fine Finish. The Hairini Hark Handicap provided a fine finish and the each-way favourite, Prince Rewa. scored narrowly. The inside horses. Harmony and Prince Rewa, were soon in front and they led into the straight from Town Survey and Royal Pilot. Harmony was weakening at the distance and Prince Rewa came on to win bv a neck from Town Survey, who finished gamely. Royal Pilot also ran on solidly to' be three-quarters of a length away third. The Mntamata owner-trainer. Mr. J. Clothier, scored his second win in succession when he won the Pntcrangi Handicap with Te Ilaka, who paid over a quarter of a century. To Takina and Sure Pay were first into the straight from Te Haka, Cheval de Batnille and Gnmos. Once they straightened up Te Takina was beaten and Te Haka challenged over the last furlong. To Haka did well to win by a length and a quarter from Sure Pay. Flying Acre finished on to be a length and a half away, third. Details Of The Racing (By Telegraph—Press Association.)
