TEACHERS’ ROOMS IN SCHOOLS
Director’s Announcement Dominion Special Service. CHRISTCHURCH, June 21. “The department has given consideration to the matter of establishing a standard in regard to the provision of teachers’ rooms in public schools, and it has been decided that these rooms are to be included in all new school buildings of two classrooms or more.” This was announced by Dr. C. E. Beeby. Director of Education, in a letter received by the Canterbury Education Board yesterday. “It is agreed also,” his letter states, “that these rooms should be provided when buildings of two or more rooms are being remodelled. It is not intended, however, that special remodelling for this purpose is to be carried out till works of greater urgency have been completed. “Tbe teachers’ rooms to be provided are to be made, as far as, possible, suitable for use by the school medical officer, and for interviews with parents and others, also as a sick room for children and for the storage for medical supplies. < Commenting on the letter, Mr. C. S. Thompson said that this was an improvement for which the board bad been battling for 20 years. The director was to be congratulated. It was absolutely essential to comfort and convenience at the schools to have such rooms.
