Breach Of Special Petrol
Licence
A fine of £5, with costs, was imposed by Mr. Luxford, S.M., on Sydney Klinberg, clothing manufacturer, who was convicted in the Magistrates’ Court, Wellington, yesterday on a charge of using petrol for unlicensed purposes. The evidence for the police was that defendant bad a special petrol licence for the Manawiitu district, but had used it for travelling to Wanganui and Rotorua.
The defence was that he had committed no offence at ail, as he bad driven outside the Manawatu district using petrol obtained by virtue of his ordinary licence. Defendant stated that he bad driven to Wanganui and Rotorua in search of a line of goods unprocurable in the district where he was operating.
“I am not satisfied with his explanation as to why bis journey to Wanga nui and Rotorua was made.” said the magistrate, in entering a conviction. Defendant was represented by Mr. S. G. Stephenson.
