Awarded To Former Wellingtonian

/Received June 20, 11.10 p.m.) SYDNEY, June 20.

Among a group of three Australians awarded the George Medal is a New South Wales man, Howard Dudley Reid, formerly of Wellington, New Zealand. The Minister of the Navy. Mr. Hughes, making this announcement, said these officers were in the first group of Australian yachtsmen who joined the Royal Australian Naval loiunteeri Reserve for service with small craft operating with the Royal Navy overseas. He added that the quality of the men who had gone from Australia had been very favourably commented upon by the Admiralty and the awards now announced exemplified the fine work Australian yachtsmen were doing.

Reid, aged 33, is an accountant in civil life and became a lieutenant last December.

Dudley Reid was one of Wellington’s prominent tennis and badminton players. He represented the Wellington Tennis Club for several seasons in senior matches, and his long reach made him a very useful member of the team. He was also an outstanding badminton player; and won the Wellington singles title on one occasion, and annexed the New Zealand mixed doubles championship with Miss Nancy Fleming, Wellington. at New Plymouth about three years
