W.C.T.U. SAILORS’ RESTS
Meeting Planned To Provide Comforts So that members could help in every possible way, it was decided at the June meeting of the Wellington Central W.C.T.U., that the next meeting be a patriotic one. As the union hits a sailors’ rest in New Plymouth and one in Tiniaru, it was felt that members could help the sailors by bringing gifts of money or goods to be sold, or comforts for the men. Such things as socks, scarves, gloves and sea boot stockings for use on minesweepers and comfort bags, holding a writing block, pen, pencils and other articles, are distributed to sailors whose homes are often in other countries the gifts being much, appreciated. A reading was given of one of Daphne du Manner's stories, 'illustrating the value of spiritual strength in helping to overcome anxiety. The meeting held a devotional session at which prayers were offered for the Empire and for those who serve it. All over New Zealand this month, Women’s Christian Temperance Unions are being asked to see in which ways they can make the best use of tbeir paper “The White Ribbon.” In this connexion a paper by Miss Janet Atkinson was retrd, showing that the work of tlie journal was for God, home and humanity. Mrs. Israel was in the chair. DISCARDED STOCKINGS Gaiters For W.A.A.F.
