Wellington Production On "End Of Summer"
g N. BEIIRMAN’S sparkling social comedy, "End of Summer,” has been selected for the next production by the Wellington Repertory Theatre, and will be presented under Mr. IV. S. M auchop’s direction at. the Concert Chamber at the beginning of July. This play shared with "Idiot’s Delight” the honours of the 1935-36 New York season, and was an outstanding success from all points of view. S. N. Behrman has frequently been compared with Bernard Shaw. He always has somethiug-of interest to say and he says it in a witty manner. The ten characters in "End of Summer” are all well drawn and each provides an interesting and amusing study. The theme of the >play deals with the clash of the young "left” group with the ‘‘old order” and demonstrates that the possession of wealth does not necessarily bring happiness. This is not, perhaps, very new, ‘but. there are some delightful twists in the story and the dialogue is considered brilliant. The Wellington production will be awaited with interest.
