PETROL SUPPLIES
Report On Future Position
Dominion Special Service
DUNEDIN, May 16.
The position of future petrol supplies was reported upon by the chairman, Mr. P. W. Breen, at a meeting of the Automobile Association (Otago). He stated the president of the South Island Motor Union had advised that unless something very unforeseen happened the present allocation of petrol would be maintained over the next two months.
The reduction of half a coupon this month, Mr. Breen said, meant a saving of 400,000 gallons of petrol. A cut in .special licences would also help to bring the consumption to within the figures desired. A national committee in Wellington, meeting regularly, would Investigate all possibilities of saving petrol without causing undue inconvenience, and at the same time watch tlie interests of the motor trade throughout New Zealand.
