54TH ANNIVERSARY
Congregational Church In
Cambridge Terrace
The Cambridge Terrace Congregational Church celebrated its fifty-fourth anniversary at a social gathering on Thursday evening. Friends from sister churches brought greetings, the Terrace being represented bv Mr. Gibson Young, Newtown bv the Rev. C. Cannell Hoskin, and Lower Hutt by Rev. K. A. Bell Yocal items were provided by .Miss Jannet Reynolds and Mr. J. Belcher. The church report outlined events lending to the resignation of the Rev. Arthur Muriel, M.C., as minister tn order to accept the position of Y.M.C.A. secretarv with the overseas forces. The report. called attention to the many organizations which, in common with the church, will miss him. Warm reference was also made to the work which Mrs. Muriel had given as leader of the ladies ” The passing of Mr. Thomas Forsyth, the report continued, was a serious loss, and it was difficult fittingly to express the value of his contribution to the chureli and the community. It is proposed to place a memorial plaque m the church to perpetuate his memory, possibly during the iubilee assembly of the New Zealand Congregational Union in Wellington m 1941. The departure of many men for overseas had depleted the youth movements for the time being. Regarding the pastorate, the church had already set up a settlement committee, and it is hoped to make a satisfactory settlement within a reasonable time. Meanwhile, the pulpit is being well supplied.
