OBITUARY

Mrs. W. J. Polson

The death lias occurred of Mrs. Florence Ada Mary Lamb Polson, wife of Mr. Polson, M.P. for Stratford, states a “Dominion” Special Service message from Wanganui. Mrs. Polson was born in Melbourne in 1579. and was the fifth and voungest daughter of Alfred and Martha Wilson, of that city. Educated first at. the Presbyterian Women’* College there, and at an academy in Paris, Miss Wilson, as she then was. spent a number of years living on the Continent, during which time she acquired an intimate knowledge of the French and German languages. She travelled extensively and lived in South Africa for two years before retnrinng to Australia. Mrs. Polson was .married in Melbourne in 1910 and came to Manurewa, Fordell. In 1925, her husband won the Stratford vote, after which she divided her time between the two places of residence. Mrs. Polson founded the W.D.F.U. movement and did a vast amount of work for it. She was prodeceased by her sisters. Mosdames Henry Butler and Francis Harman, both of Melbourne, and her son, Donald Gunn (“Jim”), who died in 1927. She is survived by her husband, her daughter, Mrs. James Cranstone, and tier sons, John and Robin, and also by her sisters, Mesdames I. M. Moss and Edward Chase, both of Melbourne. Mr. Edward Duthie The death occurred at Gremorne, Sydney, on Monday last of Mr. Edward Duthie, third son of the late Hou. J. Duthie, M.L.C., Wellington, and formerly head of the firm of John Duthie and Co., Ltd., of Willis and Victoria Streets, Wellington. Mr. Duthie, who was 66 years of age, was educated at The Terrace School and Wellington College. . After leaving school he was, with his brothers, William and John, associated with the business for some twenty years. Then developing pulmonary weakness, he took up his residence in Sydney about eighteen years ago. hoping that the milder climate might prove beneficial. lie leaves one daughter. Mr. H. J. B. Barltrop Mr. Harold James Barnard Barltrop, son of .Mr. G. AV. Baritrop, Daniell Street, AVellington, died at. his residence, S 7 Daniell Street, on Monday. The late Mr. Barltrop, who was in tils fifty-third year, was educated at Wellington College. After leaving school he was apprenticed to Mr. G. \V. AVilton. chemist, then of AVellington South. On passing his examinations as a pharmacist, Mr. Barltrop started' in business in Havelock North. Hawke's Bay. Later he practised in Wanganui, leaving that city to take over the management of the Stoddai't Pharmacy in Constable’ Street. Newtown. lie was prominent in Masonic circles while a resilient, of Hawke’s Bay, and was a foundation member of one of the lodges established in that province. Mr. Barltrop was married. 'l’here was no family.
