Award To Pilot Officer

Advice has been received by Air Headquarters, Wellington, that the Distinguished Flying Cross has been awarded to Pilot Officer Irving Stanley Smith. His next-of-kin is his mother, Mrs. IL A. Smith. 19 Trafalgar Street, Onehuuga.

Pilot Officer Smith was born in Invercargill in 1917, and was educated at Whaugarei Junior High School and Scddon Memorial Technical College, Auckland. He was selected for a short service commission in the Royal Air Force in 1939, leaving New Zealand in July of that year.
