PLEA FOR UNITY
National Government Issue DAIRY ASSOCIATION ATTITUDE
Dominion Special Service.
DUNEDIN, May 9.
An appeal to the Government to take steps to form a National Government in New Zealand is made in the annual report which is to be submitted to the conference of the South Island Dairy Association next month. The gravity of the crisis which confronts the Empire calls for the utmost endeavour on the part of every citizen to help to the limit of his or her resources,” says the report. “If New Zealand is to take its full share of the responsibility for bringing the war to a successful conclusion, all considerations of a party political nature must be ignored. “On behalf of a considerable section of the people of this country, who believe that the cause for which the Empire is fighting is one that must be preserved at all costs, we most earnestly urge upon the Government to take immediate steps for the formation of a truly National Government and thus secure the unity of action so necessary. “We are of opinion, also,” the report adds, “that besides a National .Government there is great need for the setting up of a council comprising men with the necessary qualifications to advise the Government on economic and other problems arising from the present emergency amd generally to direct the country’s war effort in such a manner that, when victory is achieved, people of New Zealand will have reason to feel proud of the part they played in saving mankind from utterly abhorrent servitude and oppression.”
