FAMILY ON HOLIDAY

“Bright Intervals,” by E. H. Clements (London: Hodder and Stoughton,.

In her first book “Let Him Die,” Miss Clements introduced her readers to the charming young members of the Cnattan family, wards of the more elderly Graham Howard, who also was Ihe main character of a second book “Make Fame a Monster.” Now a third .book brings them all together again and tilts time the author takes a holiday from writing about the detection of murder. The scene of “Bright Intervals” is the Devon coast and the atmosphere is far from tragie. Miss Clements is adept at making the incidents of everyday family life of absorbing interest to the reader. In the absence of sensational happenings she concentrates upon characterization and is completely successful in presenting life-like portraits of very likeable people. Added to that she has an easy style, her dialogue is natural and she Is witty.
