TWO FUNERALS

Late Mr. E. T. Spidy

A tribute was paid to the late Mr. E. T. Spidy, superintendent of the railway workshops and Controller of Munitions, by the Rev. E. M. McLevie, vicar of the Roseneath Church, at a memorial service which preceded the funeral yesterday afternoon. In the presence of a large assemblage, Mr. McLevie spoke of the value and influence of the splendid life, work and character of the deceased, qualities which they, no matter in what walk of life, should endeavour to emulate.

The chief mourners at the church were the daughter, Miss.lrene Spidy, and the son, Clifford, who is a member of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. The pall-bearers were Squadron Leader G. U. Carter, Group Captain A. T. Neville, Flying Officer Weinstein, and Messrs. J. R. Robertson, R. C. Aickin, and R. A. Lindrum. Those present included the Hon. AV. Nash, representing the Government. Keith There Avere more present at the memorial service for the late Mr. James Stephen Keith, of Brougham Street,, yesterday afternoon than could be provided with seats. The chief mourners were Miss Margaret Keith (daughter), Mr. Howard Keith (son), and Mrs. Keith (daughter-in-law). The pall-bearers, who had been nominated by the deceased on his death-bed, were Sir Charles Norwood, Messrs. M. Marks, George Nelson, Lou Smith, Samuel Luke, and Colin Campbell (who substituted fpr the president of the Victoria Bowling Club Mr. Alfred Ward, who was absent from Wellington).
