BATTING AND BOWLING AVERAGES

Kilbirnie Cricket Club

The batting and bowling averages of the Kilbirnie Cricket Club's first eleven were so good for the 1940-41 season that it is not surprising .that the club again carried off the Wellington Cricket Association’s senior championship. The batting averages are headed by 11. F. Rice, the captain, who was compelled to drop out of the game through ill health after having only played five innings. In these few appearances at. the wickets he aggregated 244 runs at the good average of 61. W. Burton, W. Parry, T. Pike, O. L. Wrigley and D. 8. Wilson all had batting averages of 30 or over. The outstanding bowler was J. G. Asheuden, who sent down no fewer than 193.3 overs, and took 44 wickets for 643 runs, at the good average pf 14.61. D. S. Wilson. T. G. Lemin and R. Alien also did valuable work with the ball. The bowlers were well supported by F. H. L. Mooney behind the wickets, as he caught 10 and stumped four batsmen during the season.
