“BERKELEY SQUARE”
“Berkeley Square,” which Leo du Chateau is to produce for the Wellington Repertory Theatre in the Opera House for four nights beginning on Monday, was founded on “The Sense of the Past.” the second of two unfinished novels by Henry James.
The two first books had been written, and it appears that the idea had been abandoned for accidental reasons. James was preparing to conclude “The Sense of the Past” when he (lied. Tile last chapters had not been finally revised by him, but the notes of the course that the hook was .Io follow had been dictated. It was largely from these noteo that Mr. Batderston. in collaboration with Mr. .1. Squire, completed the play, which ran for 188 performances in London in 1926. and was recently revived by Miss Jean ForbesRoberlson. ■•Berkeley Square” is neither ghostly nor ghastly. The scenes alternate between the periods of 1926 and 17S1, The cost nines of the latter period are most attraelive :uul (•oloufful. and veinedy. roimmeo ami drama flow side by side through the three acts.
