British tighter successes against enemy aireraft raiding Crete are recorded in a Royal Air Force (Middle East) communique, which states: "During the. night of May 3-4, Royal Ail’ Force bombers raided Benina aerodrome, near Benghazi, causing a number of fires and explosions. Derim aerodrome was also Irombed, with similar results. Enemy motor transport and mechanized units, some ol which were carrying troops, were bombed and maehine-gunm d in the Marana area. Other bombers attacked Hie enemy military headquarters to tl.'e south-east of Tobruk, causing four targe fires. “Enemy aircraft railing Crete were intercepted by lighters and four of the enemy were shot down and others damaged.' Anti-aircraft guns destroyed a further aircraft and damaged. others. “The Italian headquarters in Abyssinia were machine-gunned by South African lighters, and a vigorous attack was made on stores, dumps, motortransport and troops ihromjliout the day between the Falage Pass and tl )e Dessie road. It is estimated that more than 10b motor transport vehicles we-c severely dam :ged. and the Stores and dumps wer- r 1 peatedlj bit by bombs.
