ANNUAL CONFERENCE

Wairarapa Federation Of Women’s Institutes

The third annual conference of the Wairarapa Federation of Women's Institutes was held in Masterton this week, and delegates from all parts of the district attended the meeting. Officers for the ensuing year were appointed as follows: President, Miss O. Wolters (Carterton) ; committee, Mesdames D. N. Adams (Parkvale). E. M. Gayfer (Carterton), J. Haeata (Te Ore Ore), F. Jarrett (Kopuaranga), S. J. Munn (Solway-Manaia), A. Keir (Kai-tuna-Fernridge), S. O’Hara (Tinui), I. Speedy (Tinui), Savill-Smith (Gladstone).

Voluntary organizers appointed for the year were: Mesdames A. Keir (Kaituna). C. E. Dagg (Upper Plain), and L. McKenna (Kahutara). The following remit from the Opaki Institute was carried: "That this federation makes a strong recommendation Io the Dominion executive to urge the Government to appoint women jurors to hear eases of offences against women and children.” Several speakers spoke iu support of the remit, and it was stressed that sentences meted out were too light, considering the gravity of the offences.
