WOMAN KILLED BY TRAIN
Standing On Permanent Way
A young Hutt woman was struck and killed by a Wellington-Waterloo train just north of the White’s Line ramp at about 9.20 a.m. yesterday. She was: —
Mrs. Jean Gilligan, aged 25, of White’s Line East.
As The train came round the bend below the ramp, the driver saw Mrs. Gilligan standing on the permanent way. He sounded the whistle, but she did not turn till the engine was only a few yards from her. Then she halfturned, but the engine was on her before she moved farther.
1 Mrs. Gilligan was identified last evening by her father, Mr. J. Gunn, and her brother-in-law, Mr. Inuess. She was living with her father, as her husband is-serving with the forces overseas. She bad been married for two years.
