Departmental Ruling On Pay Question DUTY IN NEW ZEALAND (By Telegraph—-Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, April 24. The fact that teachers serving with the Home Guard were no.t enticed to pay if they were granted leave to undertake tnose duties was commented on by the Taranaki Education Board today when an amended schedule or leave pay for teachers on Territorial service was received. A case was quoted where a teacher had sacrificed his pay, ani It was decided to bring the question before the Education DeP The department fhad stated that, as the result of many teachers serving in territorial training beyond the usual three months making application for additional holiday pay,'the conditions of leave had been amended. In future teachers wou.d receive pay for the first three months. If. after that period, the authorities required teachers to remain on military service they were to be treated in a similar manner to those serving overseas and with tne home forces. If these teachers were likely to ne required for a year or longer their positions might be advertised as war vacancies. Where teachers voluntarily wished to continue service the board would take into account the needs of their schools when considering the application for extended 'eave, and might refuse to grant the extension.

FLYING INSTRUCTORS School To Be Established

In Tauranga

The intention of the Government to construct a flying instructors’ schoo; in Tauranga was announced on Thursday by the Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones. He said that work was to proceed at once, and that when it was finished the instructional _ activities now going on in Hobsonville, Auck land, would be transferred to Tailranga. There was an excellent aerodrome in Tauranga, said Mr. Jones, and much assistance was given by the borough council in its establishment. The constructional work was done by tbe Public Works Department, “The training of more flying instructors for the R.N.Z.A.F.,” added the Minister, wit. enable more of the.present instructors to be released for service overseas.
