FORMER PROFESSOR IN WARSAW

AUCKLAND, April 25. The first Polish Consul-General to be appointed to New Zealand, Professor K. Wodzicki, has arrived at Auckland fiom London on bls way to Wellington, where he will take up office. The prolessor, who Is accompanied by his wife and their two children, was formerly professor of biology at Warsaw Universify College of Agriculture. Professor Wodzickl said he was proud to be the first representative of Poland- to the Dominion, specially at a time when his countrymen were fighting with the British Empire for the common cause of freedom and liberty for tbs. entire world. Many tributes to the determination and courage of the British people were paid by Professor Wodzicki, who lived in London for about eight months recently. Britain was carrying on, and J:he same could be said of Poland, whose soldiers, sailors ana airmen were fighting by the side of Britain. The Polish Government in London was not a puppet one, added the professor. It was a national and united Government, including all political parties which existed in Poland before the war. Poland had never hau a Quisling and never would have. Professor Wodzicki intends to combine with his official duties some research work, particularly on stock breeding, in which he is interested. Before he was offered the post of Consul-General, the professor was in vited to visit New Zealand by the authorities at Massey College. Professor Wodzicki paid several visits to England before the war and worked at Cambridge with Dr. John Hammond. the outstanding ,British authority on animal diseases and breeding, who visited New Zealand in 1938 to advise the Government on problems relating to live stock.
