Prisoner Charged With Bigamy

AUCKLAND, April 24,
“He is a simple-minded man,” pleaded Mr. Rimmer on behalf of Horace Basil Wiggins, aged 31, who appeared for sentence before Mr. Justice Fair in the Supreme Court on an admitted offence of bigamy hi Whangarei. Counsel said accused married in 1932, but in 1937 his wife left him. In August he started keeping company with a girl and because of her condition ■ her parents consulted him concerning marriage. Consequently he went through the form of marriage. When interviewed he said he thought he was free to marry because his wife had been away three years. He liad started proceedings for divorce and desired to marry the girl. The judge released prisoner on probation for two years. He is to keep away from the girl till he has obtained a divorce and is then to marry the girl-
