BROAD BEANS

Sow Them Now

Broad beans are the hardiest members of the bean family and can be sown now with the knowledge that they will survive the frosts of winter and be ready for the table later in the year. A fairly heavy soil gives best results for broad beans, but that does not mean an over-rich soil. A fair amount of organic matter, plus a dressing of superphosphate, is all that is usually required. Light soils, however, will stand a little well-decayed animal manure. Sow seed three inches deep and six inches, apart.
