ARMY'S TRIBUTE

Garden Fete At Trentham Aids Carnival's Cause TRIBUTE TO SERVICES QUEEN The Army’s big day for the Fighting Services Queen Sister Molly Mahoney, was one of the most spectacular and successful events, in the Wellington Victory Queen Carnival. Special trains packed with visitors left Wellington yesterday at from 12.15 P.m. on, bound for Trentham, where the camp was open to them, and where the racecourse, made available by the Wellington Racing Club, was the centre of a garden fete. The event, which .was conducted by courtesy of the Camp Commandant, Lieut.-Colonel H. D. McHugh, M.C., was held as a tribute to the Fighting Services Queen by the troops in the camp, and also presented an opportunity to return the hospitality of many Wellington hosts and hostesses. ■ Sister Mahoney and her six princesses were present, Sister Mahoney

The weather was brilliant, and the green lawns and colourful flower-beds at the racecourse, and the peaceful surroundings were an ideal setting for the occasion. There was plenty of activity and fun for the visitors, and three military bands, those of I’reutham, Fort Dorset, and the Ist Battalion, provided music throughout tile afteinoon. Refreshments and afternoon tea were available and were much in demand. All the arrangements were in the bauds of the officers and men, working at the direction of a committee comprising Captain B. C. H. Koff (seeietary), Lieutenant C. Moore (organizer) and Major M. Murison, Captains Blanchard. Horwood, Dudson, and Lieutenants Cody, Davidson, Parker and Swan, who also co-operated with all the committees of the Fighting Services Queen and her princesses. The day was an outstanding success.
