Wellington Society’s Report
Ihut every eilorl. bud been mu de throughout the year to make the rooms oi the Wellington branch of the British bailors Society as homely as 'possible for the men of the sea who endure great hardship and who play such an essential part in the struggle for democracy, was reported at the recent annual meeting of the society.
During 10 months of activity 10,348 seamen had visited the rooms, and many had been supplied with meals. Frequent outings and football matches had been arranged, and accommodation found for a number of distressed seamen. “It ie most, gratifying to record a successful financial year,” said the treasurer, Mr. 11. A. Gold. “The total income was £783/0/11, and expenditure £506/19/3. leaving a surplus of revenue of £2lO/7/8. The most notable source of income was the flag day appeal, held in conjunction with jthe Navy League, which brought in £459 for the society.”
