Steel Plant Workers Vote In Favour

(Received March 9, 7 p.m.) PHILADELPHIA, March 8.

Employees of the Midvale steel plant voted to work a seven-day, 56-hout week in the interest of the national defence in emergency. This contrasts sharply with the alarming epidemic of strikes in many places, where large defence orders have been placed. Obviously many union leaders are taking advantage of exceptional circumstances to force rates of pay up and hours of work down. Mr. Edward Kunz, secretary of the Federal Labour Union, announcing the Midvale decision, said: “Other unions may criticize us for this, but we are loyal Americans before anything else.'’
